When I got these two bills out from the ATM in Washington earlier this year, the DXY index which shows the strength of the dollar was at 113.95, today the same strength is lower at 104.32.

They say crypto is “too” volatile.

Hello everyone!

I wanted to share a quick update about my blog. I recently decided to upgrade the underlying technology stack, which included upgrading the PHP version from 7.4 to 8.2 and upgrading the Laravel framework from version 7 to version 9.

While this process went smoothly overall, I did run into a few issues with certain packages and plugins that were incompatible with the newer versions. It took some time to troubleshoot and resolve these issues, but I am happy to report that everything is now running smoothly on PHP 8.2.

Overall, I’m really excited about the performance improvements and new features that come with these upgrades. I’m looking forward to exploring all that the new versions have to offer and continuing to provide a great experience for my readers.

Thanks for following along, and stay tuned for more updates from me in the future!

Trading is not gambling

Lately, I have been attracted to the trading world. Lots of my free time went into learning this world, concepts and strategies. I’ve lost some money, I’ve re-gained it back, I am building a strategy for myself. But often I hear people that say trading is gambling, or the same type of thing. No. Trading...

Next blog theme iteration: 2022 edition

Usually, around this time of year, I want to build a new theme for my blog, but I still like the current one I have so I just decided to make small incremental changes. I’ve had some things on my mind for a while so now I just implemented some of those: Because my theme...

Raycast wrapped

I installed Raycast at the end of February this year, so the data you can see in the picture below is almost for the whole of 2022 year. I find it interesting that Whatsapp and Outlook are the most open apps, but I think I know why: I keep VSCode and PhpStorm almost always open...

What I like about the US #1

I will start a small series of quick posts about things I like in the US versus my own country/Europe. Today I am going to talk about clothing. I like that I can go to Walmart and buy a dozen packs of socks – Hanes Cushion. This type of socks: I cannot find good pair...

How do you like your coffee?

I am a coffee guy – period! I like coffee and sometimes maybe I drink too much of it. I am also a programmer so the perfect stereotype – programmers drink coffee. I drink it for the taste, not to keep me awake. I can drink coffee (maybe even 2-3) and in the next 10...

Automattic trial year 2 – (probably) my last trial. Thoughts about the hiring process.

I have another post with my trial experience from last year, you might have to read that first, this one will be a little different. Read it here. So… if you read my blog you might know that last year I trialed for a job at Automattic. Even if their canned rejection message on Slack...

I think I am going to be able to write a new version/follow-up to this article soon.

I am leaning towards a new refusal this year, but we’ll see. This is one of the most challenging/exciting waiting games ever.

Diversity visa 2023

I am going to be short with this post: we did not win it. We had two chances, both I and Catalina submitted applications but neither of us got randomly extracted. There is still time for us, to hope that this program will not be canceled or a better alternative to legally immigrate to the...

Romanians and their concern about others

I find it hard to believe that some fellow Romanians are making fun of the US president, either the current one or the past one, but we still have a president that called me and those fellow friends “religiously fanatical”. In the meantime, the US presidents always invoke God in their speeches and also pray...

Guess it's obvious, but the theme is created by myself with Tailwind CSS. You can find the source code here.
I still use WordPress 🧡. The theme is custom Laravel though 😎.
